Understanding buildings that few others can reach.

Spire Australia is a specialist conservation practice working with significant buildings and structures where access, condition or complexity demands an uncommon level of experience and judgement.

We investigate, conserve and maintain historic building fabric, combining close-range physical inspection, traditional craft knowledge, specialist access and contemporary survey and documentation techniques.

Our work frequently begins where conventional inspection ends: on spires, towers, façades, roofs, chimneys and other parts of buildings that cannot be adequately understood from the ground.

Access is part of what makes this possible. Understanding the building is the purpose.

INVESTIGATION

Good conservation begins with careful observation. We undertake close-range visual and tactile inspection, condition recording, photographic survey and systematic documentation of difficult-access building fabric.

CONSERVATION

We favor repair over replacement, minimum necessary intervention and the retention of significant original fabric. Our work encompasses masonry, stone, mortar, concrete, roofs and other building elements requiring careful, targeted intervention.

SPECIALIST ACCESS

Rope access, steeplejack techniques, temporary access systems, rigging, elevating work platforms and remote survey are tools.

The skill lies in determining which is appropriate.
